Adirondack Park

The Adirondack Park was created in 1892 by the State of New York amid concerns for the water and timber resources of the region. Today the Park is the largest publicly protected area in the contiguous United States, greater in size than Yellowstone, Everglades, Glacier, and Grand Canyon National Park combined. The boundary of the Park encompasses approximately 6 million acres, nearly half of which belongs to all the people of New York State and is constitutionally protected to remain “forever wild” forest preserve. The remaining half of the Park is private land which includes settlements, farms, timber lands, businesses, homes, and camps. (Information provided by: NYS Adirondack Park Agency 2003)

Bennington Battle Monument

The monument is 306 ft. tall. The observation
area is 200 feet in the air as can be seen from
the slits in the stone. The monument commemorates
the Revolutionary War's battle at Bennington.
Although the battle is termed the battle of Bennington it
actually occurred 10 miles away in New York state.
This monument is the tallest in the state of Vt.
Besides Vt., NY and Mass. can be seen from the
observation deck.

Hogback Mountain is on Rt. 9 between Bennington
and Brattleboro.

From this view on a clear day you should be able
to see one hundred miles which should be just
about to Conn. looking south.
Good Lord willing and the creeks don't rise, ( an old
saying from back home) I hope to get back to this
spot when the leaves change color.

No Pics, Just General Thoughts

About the way people drive here in Mass. , when you are at a stop light and there is no turn signal to go left, it is generally acceptable to beat the on coming car and turn in front of them. It is almost like there is a hesitation from the person who has the right of way.
At intersections, the left lane is straight through or left turn and the right lane is straight through. Once you get through the intersection, the right lane merges into the left lane at about a car length or two. So you have people who are cutting you off trying to get in front of you.
If you are not an aggressive driver when you come here, you will learn very fast how to drive aggressively.
Of all the Wal-Mart's in this part of New England I have not found one that is a Super Wal-Mart.
Gina and I think we have figured out why. We think that the local small markets in the towns around here have put a stop to any "Super" Wal-Marts because it would hurt their business.
