Moving Day

Today, I helped my two sons move into their new apartment. They have started their new journeys in life. It is a very strange feeling for them to have their own place. Gina and I gave them our washer and dryer to help them with their laundry.
I pray that God will guide their ways and they will look to him for all their needs in life.

Co-Pilot's seat

I had the first seat in the airplane and was able to snap this photo before the pilot closed the door.
Please feel free to post comments to this blog. I would love to hear your feedback. To make a comment you can click the "comment" tab below the post.

It is so neat to see the clouds from the other side! I snapped this picture today on my way home to Ky. for Blake's graduation.

Kite Surfing

This is a local thing to do. It looks really cool to drive by the bay and see all the "kite surfers."

Alameda and California Weather

My current residence is in Alameda which is an island in the "east bay" of the San Francisco bay.

The pic. above is the SF skyline at sunset as seen from near my apartment. The bridge is the Bay bridge which connects Oakland to SF.

The San Francisco bay is divided into different sections. The north bay is near San Rafael (pronounced San Rafel) and Richmond. The east bay which consists of Oakland and Alameda and the south bay near Fremont and San Jose. The SF bay is bounded on the west by the "Pennisula" which is where SF, San Mateo, San Bruno and Burlingame are located.

The weather here in the bay area is so nice. It is sunny about 95% of the time. The temperature is usually in the upper 50's, 60's and low 70's during the day and in the upper 40's and 50's during the night. During the summer there is an increase in the fog in the bay area which contributes to the temperatures being so mild. Mark Twain once said, "the coldest winter I ever saw was the summer I spent in San Francisco."

First timer

Hey everyone,

I have been thinking a long time about starting a blog. First, I had to figure how a blog works! I guess it is a place that I can share my thoughts and pictures with the world.

Just to start, I will give a brief history and will periodically do a retrospect and tell about my trip out here to California.

I am in Oakland working at a hospital doing general and vascular ultrasound and living in Alameda. I have been here going on six weeks.

My wife is still at home with my boys. Blake graduates this weekend and I am flying home for that. He and my other son, Seth are getting an apartment together. Seth graduated from IT school this past March. At the end of this assignment Gina will be traveling with me. We have been planning this for some time now. We both love to travel and this will allow us to see the country while someone else pays for the trip!

Gina and I drove from our home base in Ky. here to Oakland. We took most of a week to make the trip. We stopped at various places and that is where I will do some retrospective posts and tell you about some of the great places to see in this country.

This past weekend my nephew, who move to the SF area a few months ago, and I went to Monterey and down the Big Sur coast. I was disappointed with Monterey, it was really touristy. If you have children it seems to be a place to go. There were alot of families there. I found the Monterey Bay Aquarium which I will visit next month with my wife. The Big Sur coast is awesome. It is very similar to the Mendicino county coastline that I visited a couple weeks ago.

Big Sur is so named after the river that drains the valley the "Big Sur River". This area is divided into two parts the "north coast" which is from Carmel down to the Big Sur Valley. The second part is called the "south coast" (imagine that!). The south coast is the remaining 60 miles or so to San Simeon. The Big Sur Valley is rich in visual treasure but poor in opportunities to make a living.

Until next time...............
