More Aquarium pics....

This is just one variety of jelly fish at the aquarium.

Ocean Sun Fish, which can get very large. This picture
does not give justice to the size it was, it was about
five feet wide.

School of sardines. These fish swam as though they
were being conducted in a symphony. They swam in
harmony.

Gina checking her camera.

Sea otter.

Overall, I was not very impressed with the Monterey
Bay Aquarium. Gina and I have been to several
Aquariums in various cities. Probably the best that we
have been to is in Atlanta, Ga.

My California Housing

This is the view from the back of my apartment. It is so peaceful here, I can sit in my living room and hear the stream running out back. Alameda has a "homey" feeling. I will miss the solitude of where I live. Oakland on the other hand seems a world different. Oakland could be a lot better place if only the city would keep its streets clean, mainly Broadway which is one of the primary downtown streets.

Pelican Sunset

This was taken tonight out by my apartment here in Alameda. My nephew, Ashley, and I walked out to the bay after dinner and saw this great sunset. I was lucky enough to catch these pelicans flying into the sunset.

Did you know..........

---The Starbucks coffee chain was named for Starbuck, Ahab's first mate on the Pequod. The Pequod was the whaling ship based on Nantucket Island in the book, "Moby-Dick".

---The Mississippi River which is up to 4 miles wide in some sections, is less than 10 ft. deep mostly.

---Our nation's capital was first in New York City. Before ending up in Washington, D.C., the capital was also located in Philadelphia, PA, Annapolis, MD, Trenton, NJ, and Princeton, NJ.

---There were twelve US Presidents to hold the rank of General, George Washington being the first.

---George Washington being too modest to accept the name of our nation's capital, called it Federal City.

"The Star-Spangled Banner"

The national anthem of the United States of America, " The Star-Spangled Banner" was set to the melody of an English drinking song. It was written in 1814 and officially decreed as the national anthem by Congress in 1931.
The lyrics to "The Star-Spangled Banner" described Francis Scott Key's impression of the battle between the British and the Americans at Fort McHenry, a fortress for Baltimore, which is 40 miles north of Washington, D.C..
When the battle ended and the smoke cleared, Key could see the red, white and blue flag still fluttering in the morning breeze - which was a sign of American victory.

These two flags are in downtown Oakland.

The information about the flag was taken from "The Intellictual Devotional- American History" written by David S. Kidder and Noah D. Oppenheim.

Current Gasoline Prices

July 8, 2008

This is today's gas price from Alameda, Ca.

The cost of living here in California is very high. I do not see how people survive here without good paying jobs. I was talking with one of the transporters at the hospital today and she said that a lot of people here in California are loosing everything they have.

When will the insanity stop? What has to be done to make a change for the better?

I don't have the answers, but let's pray that positive change will come soon.

I received the contract for my next assignment. I will be going to Brockton, Ma. the middle of August doing Cardiac and Vascular. My last workday here in Ca. is Aug. 1. It will take about four days to travel home and then I will have a few days of rest before going to the next assignment. I am really looking forward to being in the New England area for the fall. God willing I will be posting many fall foliage pictures this year.

Views from Work

Yes, I really do work!

This is the view from the ultrasound office at
Alta Bates Summit Medical Center. It is such a
great view. The hills in the background are
known as the "Oakland Hills". This is where my
boss has his home as well as a lot of the Doctors.

This view is of downtown Oakland from the
windows on first floor just down the hall from
the ultrasound department. The hospital sets on
a hill which is referred to as "pill hill". There are
other hospitals on this hill as well as doctor's
offices.
